UNIZIK Students of Mathematics Dept. Emerge Victorious at NAMSSN Maths Quiz Competition

The vice chancellor, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku has congratulated the students from the department of Mathematics for their remarkable performance at the National Conference of the National Association of Mathematical Sciences Students of Nigeria (NAMSSN) held recently in Abuja. The students competed with their counterparts from other universities across the country.

Prof. Ahaneku made the commendation yesterday when the students together with some staff of the department of Mathematics led by the acting Head of the Department, Dr. Donald Okoli paid him a courtesy call.

The vice chancellor, while congratulating the students, asserted that the university has become a center of academic excellence as her students and products have not relented in excelling at various competitions and fields of endeavour.

He hailed the students for promoting and projecting the good name of the university by distinguishing themselves at the competition. Prof. Ahaneku further commended the staff of the department for their combined efforts in mentoring the students towards excellence. He further announced cash prizes for the students.

Earlier while disclosing the purpose of the visit, the Ag HOD, Dr. Okoli disclosed that the students did not just emerge tops at the quiz competition, they also excelled in other competitions. He listed other prizes won by the students to include, first position in football competition, Best player award in football, and best defender award in football. Others include highest goal scorer, best goal keeper, first position in the Miss NAMSSN Pageant and first runner-up in Chess competition.

The students who represented the university include Arazu Charlesdan, Nwonu Blessing, Onu Chukwuma, Iloka Joshua and Okoli Clement. Others include Nnebue Ukamaka, Ifechukwu Amarachi, Uchendu Solomon, Amobi Judith and Ejiofor Stanley.
